Did you know that effective 1 July 2025, a national ban on PFAS chemicals came into effect in Australia?
As part of our ongoing commitment to regulatory compliance and environmental responsibility, Charles Parsons has implemented important changes to our product requirements to ensure alignment with strict Australian regulations.
What is PFAS?
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of more than 4,700 synthetic chemicals. They are commonly referred to as “forever chemicals” because they break down very slowly in the environment and can accumulate over time in soil, water, wildlife, and the human body.
PFAS can enter the environment at any stage of their lifecycle, from manufacturing through to product use and disposal. The PFAS of greatest concern are highly persistent, do not readily degrade naturally, and can travel long distances from their original source. Global use of PFAS has led to some PFAS being found in many parts of the environment.
Due to increasing global awareness of their potential environmental and health impacts, many countries including Australia are taking steps to phase out PFAS use. Research continues to better understand their behaviour, persistence, and associated risks.

As part of our ongoing commitment to the environment and high-quality textiles we have changed our product requirements to ensure our linings are now “forever chemical” FREE.
